Selling Cars

Well, as I've reported over on my other blog, Dana Sells Cars, I just notched my first two car sales this past Tuesday.

If I could sell that number every week then I'm at my minimum quota and I would be very happy. If I could sell more I would be even happier.

I like selling cars. It can be a little frustrating at times, but when you make the sale for a customer there is a real good feeling inside. Plus being around new cars and the new car smell is a real big motivator for me. Ha.

The weather has definitely moved toward Spring in the past few days. Most of the local snowpack has evaporated with the warm temps in the region. I haven't seen the sun for a week but I expect it to pop out any time now.

Everything else is going well at the moment so no complaints here.

My Brain Hurts

I'm just whacked after my first couple days of being a Personal Sales Advisor for new and used vehicles.

Tired in a good way but tired nonetheless.

My brain hurts because of all the info I'm trying to stuff into it in a relatively short period of time. Not any different I suppose than anyone else starting a new job would feel in a smiliar situaiton.

The upshot is that I'm not very creative or clever tonight so you'll have to just deal with a bit of the boring in the blog.

I promise to return to form in a few days once I catch up on my sleep and actually start making some sales.

Last Night In Public Television

Tonight is my last shift in Master Control for Prairie Public Television. Forever. After this I go to work selling cars at Luther Family Ford in south Fargo starting Monday.

It really feels like I'm not even working tonight. We're pledging for dollars so its not a normal night as far as staff goes. Usually this shift is just me and the tape machines. This evening we've got a full studio of volunteers answering phones and techies running equipment. I'm caught up on all my routine duties for the shift so the rest of the night is just a watch and wait affair. At this point there is only six hours or so until I sign off the transmitters and leave for the last time.

I really don't know if I'll miss this place or not. I'm sure I will yet now I'm not having those typical pangs of guilt that usually follow a job change. I'm looking most forward to having a regular schedule of work and sleep at my new job. The unbalanced schedule of 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. throws everything out of wack so that you can't have a regular life outside of work. That's not a problem for younger people but at my middling age I can't say I get much out of it.

For the continuing adventures of my life as a newbie carsaleman check out my other blog, Dana Sells Cars for the real story on how the car business goes these days.

Talk About My Girls

My Girls Posted by Picasa

These are my three favorite women (from left to right): my mother Donna Mae (age 65), my niece Lilly Margaret (age 21 months), and my sister Eve Marie (age 34). This picture was taken earlier this year at my sister's townhouse in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Aren't they the sweetest trio you've seen? I certainly think so.

Go Irish!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'm just a wee bit Irish myself on my paternal side but I think most of us claim to be Irish on this day no matter how much or how little blood from the Emerald Isle flows in our veins.

I celebrate this day because it is EXACTLY half-way to my birthday. Some Irish celebrate my birthday, September 17th because it is EXACTLY half-way to St. Patrick's Day.

A coincidence? Not if you know anything about me.

Tonight you'll find me drinking and partying with my fellow Irish over at the Moorhead Bennigans. Stop in and I'll buy you a drink.

Slainte!

Job Change

Howdy all you loyal followers of A Man Named Dana.

I've returned to blogging with a new blog, Dana Sells Cars. There you'll find up-to-date accounts of my life as a neophyte car salesman.

Be sure to check that blog out for the latest in my career life. I'll keep posting here for all the rest of the news about my personal life and all the unusual stuff from around the world that I find on the web.

Maybe there won't be a need for two blogs in my life, we'll see.

Until the day comes when I make that decision you're stuck with both of me.
